Some new jewelry from F21 on top of Bangkok 8, which is proving be to be pretty interesting possibly solely because I know zero about Thailand or Thai culture. It’s a murder story, of course, but it’s more of a detective murder story this time.

Messing around with my Canon A610 this morning… checking to see if it’s still functional before giving it away to someone who might actually use it instead of leave it on the floor of their closet (like I did…)

I’d forgotten about the color accent/swap thing Canon cameras had. It’s fairly entertaining, despite being something I could do in GIMP no problem…

Coin Locker Babies cover here, since I finished the book last night. Same number of pages as Hard-Boiled Wonderland but the book is a bit larger and the print is smaller. Would I recommend it? Ehh… there are good things about it, but if you’re sensitive to either of the following I would definitely not recommend: murderous intent (people are not just killed, characters spend a while thinking about exactly how they’d like to harm so-and-so), animal death/harm (it’s not prominently featured, but it’s there and hard to overlook). There’s also a fair amount of… uncomfortable imagery used, so bear that in mind as well. I did like it a bit better than In The Miso Soup (the only other Ryu Murakami book I’ve read), probably because it had a more coherent/complicated narrative to tell – Miso Soup is more or less a slasher flick in print form, although the narration is interesting. So, there’s that, but you’ll still probably come away from the book feeling pretty unsettled…

If you happen to know the book, or end up reading it, Anemone was my favorite character, although she’s second-string in the narrative.

Grey day today…
My borrowed guitar & lesson book.

Sort of uninspired today… spent most of the free time reading Hard-Boiled Wonderland and napping…
This is my new eco-glass thing.. it’s meant to look like one of those disposable plastic cups, but it’s insulated and the top screws on and the straw is hard plastic. It will probably reduce the amount of times I knock over my cup and spill things on the floor, if nothing else…

I finished The Eyre Affair this morning. It was good~ weird, but good.
This was my fortune at lunch today – obviously someone knows what I’ve been up to.
The book it’s on is Haruki Murakami’s Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, something I’ve read before, but am going to re-read to refresh my memory on what happens, exactly…

My book order from amazon came yesterday, as well as my amazon.co.jp order:
Bangkok 8 – John Burdett
The Eyre Affair – Jasper Fforde (author rec’d by GT)
The Devil’s Whisper – Miyuki Miyabe
Forbidden Colors – Yukio Mishima
Coin Locker Babies – Ryu Murakami
Real World – Natsuo Kirino
and 花咲くいろは BD 1 (love this show so much~ :uehato: first BD has three episodes and comes with a lovely color booklet… will probably do a review on miuofstars later)

I’m pretty sure all of these books will involve at least one murder.
I also read The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino (Kindle ver) yesterday. It was only 300 pages, so it didn’t take that long. It was, as you might expect, a murder story. And kind of a mystery, but not a standard detective mystery, although I’m sure there are more books that take this approach. There weren’t any lines that particularly stood out, but it was interesting, and that’s enough to get a passing grade from me.

I’ve decided I want to try doing 365photo again… so here’s today: a stack of things I should probably move off of the floor, which includes Dengeki G and Dengeki Moeoh, Ai (netbook), the posters that came with Dengeki G, a DVD of something… and the two anime-eye glasses that jlist sent over with the magazines (one of which has Taiga!eyes~ I am pleased).

Happy birthday~

I thought about writing an e-mail, but decided this was less disruptive. If you’re here, it’s because you want to see it.

I sincerely hope you had a good day and that you haven’t been totally melting in all of this heat we’ve had lately.

Okay, bye~
